The town of Walterhill, also known as Walter Hill, is a small community located in Rutherford County, Tennessee. As of the 2010 census, the population was 401. One of the most prominent geographical features of Walterhill is the East Fork of Stones River. The river was named after the first white person to explore it, a long-hunting man named Uriah Stone. The river serves as the primary drainage channel for Rutherford County, and numerous springs and creeks line its banks. Andrew Jackson’s carriage can be seen on display at The Hermitage. The original mill was built in 1802 on the Stones River, near the current concrete dam. Cummins purchased the land three years before Tennessee was admitted to the union. The mill’s dam was originally made of stone and earth, but cedar logs were added in the 19th century. Carter has a large beef cattle operation and enjoys the traditional methods of farming. He exhibits old tools and implements at community events and enjoys hunting when the opportunity arises. He is an avid Tennessee Titans fan. Marvene and Carter live in the Christiana community, and their two daughters, Marianna and Elizabeth, attend the Fosterville/Midland Volunteer Fire Department, and are active in the local Church of Christ.
